GERD NEGOTIATIONS RESUME TODAY AFTER SEVEN DAYS BREAK
All parties involved in the ongoing discussion about the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will resume its negotiations after a seven days break.
The discussion which will be held in South Africa will see representative from all three nations (Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan) be in attendance as they plan to resolve the ongoing tension.
Recently, US President Donald Trump made a remark about the issue to Egypt President by saying “Egypt would not be able to live with the dam and might “blow up” the construction” has created more tension leading to this meeting as many Ethiopian did not like the comment.
Meanwhile, SA President Cyril Ramaphosa said The resumption of the Trilateral Negotiations on the GERD, under the auspices of the African Union, is indicative of the strong political will and commitment by the leadership of the three parties involved in the negotiations to the peaceful and amicable resolution of the GERD matter.
He also reassured the three negotiating parties of the African Union’s unremitting support and cooperation, and expressed his utmost confidence that the parties will reach agreement on the remaining issues, including those related to the technical and legal aspects of the negotiations.
So far, all three parties are yet to agree on the Dam but with the meeting set to begin after a seven day break, hopes among some AU member that a deal will soon be reached is gaining momentum but one would wonder if President Trump remark will have a negative reaction during the meeting.
